Walt Whitman (1819-1892)

Walt Whitman was an American poet. He incorporated both transcendentalism and realism views in his works, often considered controversial , like the poetry collection Leaves of Grass. His best known poem O Captain! My Captain! was written on the death of Abraham Lincoln.   He is often called the father of free verse.
