Have you seen him tonight?
I’ve seen him.
Did you see him last night?
I saw him, I see him every night.
Does he look at you?
He doesn’t look sideways,
he only looks over there,
over there, where the sky begins and the earth ends,
in the line of light left by the sunset.
He comes after dusk.
Is he alone?
He’s alone.
What is his style?
He always wears black.
But where does he stop?
To which hut?
To which building?
(Transl. by D. Foglia)
L’hai veduto passare stasera?
L’ho visto.
Lo vedesti ieri sera?
Lo vidi, lo vedo ogni sera.
Ti guarda?
Non guarda da lato
soltanto egli guarda laggiù,
laggiù dove il cielo incomincia
e finisce la terra, laggiù
nella riga di luce
che lascia il tramonto.
E dopo il tramonto egli passa.
Solo?
Solo.
Vestito?
Di nero è sempre vestito di nero.
Ma dove si sosta?
A quale capanna?
A quale palazzo?
