vibrates in the memory –
odours, when sweet violets sicken,
live within the sense they quicken.
Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
are heap’d for the beloved’s bed;
and so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
love itself shall slumber on.
La musica, quando le soffici voci svaniscono,
vibra nella memoria,
i profumi, quando le dolci violette sfioriscono,
vivono dentro i sensi che ravvivano.
I petali della rosa, quando la rosa muore,
vengono ammucchiati per il letto dell’amata;
così sui tuoi pensieri, quando te ne sarai
andata, l’amore stesso si assopirà.
