Behold the sign; it flutters
on the wall dancing gold bright
the silhouette of palm leaves
burnt in the dazzle of first light.
Footsteps of arrival from the
greenhouse, sustained, not felted
by the snow: it is still
your life, your blood in my veins.
Ecco il segno; s’innerva
sul muro che s’indora:
un frastaglio di palma
bruciato dai barbagli dell’aurora.
Il passo che proviene
dalla serra sì lieve,
non è felpato dalla neve, è ancora
tua vita, sangue tuo nelle mie vene.
