And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –
I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.

Canta melodie senza parole –
e non smette – mai –
E la senti – dolcissima – nel vento –
E dura deve essere la tempesta –
capace di intimidire il piccolo uccello
che ha dato calore a tanti –

e sui mari più alieni –
Eppure mai, nemmeno allo stremo,
ho chiesto una briciola – di me.
