I have never loved you so much, ma soeur
As when I left you in that evening’s red.
The forest swallowed me, the blue forest, ma soeur
Over which the pale stars in the west always stood.
I laughed not a little, not at all, ma soeur
Playfully moving on towards dark destiny –
While the faces behind me were already
Slowly fading in the blue forest evening.
All was beautiful on this one evening, ma soeur
Never again afterwards and never before –
Of course: all I had left were the great birds
Hungry in the dark skies of an evening.
mentre i volti dietro di me lentamente
certo: ora mi restavano solo i grandi uccelli
