David Herbert Lawrence – Consapevole / Aware

William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Evening mood, 1882

Slowly the moon is rising out of the ruddy haze,
divesting herself of her golden shift, and so
emerging white and exquisite; and I in amaze
see in the sky before me, a woman I did not know
I loved, but there she goes and her beauty hurts my heart;
I follow her down the night, begging her not to depart.

Lentamente la luna sorge dalla rosea nebbia
spogliandosi della sua veste dorata, e così
emerge, bianca e raffinata; allora stupito
io vedo in cielo, davanti, una donna che non sapevo
d’amare, ma ella va, e la sua bellezza mi ferisce al cuore;
la seguo via nella notte,
pregandola di non lasciarmi.
