I love uncertain gestures:
someone stumbles, someone else
bangs his glass
can’t remember,
gets distracted or the sentinel
can’t stop the slight
flicker of his lashes-
they matter to me
because in them I see the wobbling,
the familiar rattle of
the broken mechanism.
The whole object makes no sound,
has no voice, only moves.
But here the apparatus,
the play of parts, has given way,
a piece breaks off
declares itself.
Inside, something dances.
Amo i gesti imprecisi,
uno che inciampa, l’altro
che fa urtare il bicchiere,
quello che non ricorda,
chi è distratto, la sentinella
che non sa arrestare il battito
breve delle palpebre,
mi stanno a cuore
perché vedo in loro il tremore,
il tintinnio familiare
del meccanismo rotto.
L’oggetto intatto tace, non ha voce
ma solo movimento. Qui invece
ha ceduto il congegno,
il gioco delle parti,
un pezzo si separa,
si annuncia.
Dentro qualcosa balla.
