How does the Meadow-flower its bloom unfold?
Because the lovely little flower is free
down to its root, and, in that freedom, bold;
and so the grandeur of the Forest-tree
comes not by casting in a formal mould,
but from its own divine vitality.
Come il fiore del prato si spiega in rigoglio?
Perchè il grazioso fiorellino è libero
in fondo alla radice e, in quella libertà, ardito;
e così lo splendore dell’ albero della foresta
deriva non dal gettarsi in una rigida forma,
ma dalla sua propria vitalità divina.
