Once more the stars of love cross
clear over our cloudy heads
there where we sit unknowing
on opposite banks. And it appears natural
never to have seen you or heard you
and to gaze at you in an ancient light.
Desire or regret? Desire
and regret, a lone bitter fever.
An astral wine radiated in the crystal,
a melted sunlight that you gulped
and you stared at the blindness of the landscape.
(Transl. by R. Poggioli)
Di nuovo gli astri d’amore traversano
lucidi sulle nostre teste opache
là dove noi scendiamo inconsapevoli
su opposte rive. E appare naturale
non averti veduta mai né udita
ed affliggerti in una luce antica.
Desiderio o rimpianto? Desiderio
e rimpianto, una sola febbre amara.
Raggiava nel cristallo un vino astrale,
un sole fuso che bevevi a sorsi
e fissavi la dura cecità del paesaggio.
