A window here again
Where they don’t sleep again.
Maybe they thus sit,
Maybe they drink wine.
Or they would not part
Simply the two hands.
There is such a window
In each house, friend.
Window in the night –
Partings’, meetings’ scream!
Maybe – hundred candles,
Maybe – only three.
And my restless mind
Cannot find its peace.
In my very home
Was begotten this.
Pray, friend, for the sleepless home
Behind a window with a flame!
Ecco ancora una finestra,
dove ancora non dormono.
Forse – bevono vino,
forse – siedono così.
O semplicemente – le due
mani non staccano.
In ogni casa, amico,
c’è una finestra così.
Non candele o lampade hanno acceso il buio:
ma gli occhi insonni!
Grido di distacchi e d’incontri:
tu, finestra nella notte!
Forse, centinaia di candele,
forse, tre candele…
Non c’è, non c’è per la mia
mente quiete.
Anche nella mia casa
è entrata una cosa come questa.
Prega, amico, per la casa insonne,
per la finestra con la luce.
