Drink your wine in the dark inn by the beach,
in a corner, now that first rains are coming back,
drink it with the sailors and the stooped fishermen in front of you,
and with the men who’ve suffered the anguish of sea and pauperism.
Drink it: may your soul become so fearless
to smile at its doom whenever comes,
and if new woes would come you offer them a drink,
and if death comes you can smoothly pour her your wine, too.
