Gaius Valerius Catullus was a Latin poet of the late Roman Republic. His works are considered the finest lyric poetry of ancient Rome, and significantly influenced Ovid and Virgil. He wrote in the neoteric style about his personal life and a woman called Lesbia, turning away from classical epic poetry.
