what is promised by one, surely the other performs.

Naviga! Naviga sempre! E sol verso occidente
che di laggiù sorger dovrà la terra
che al tuo genio già brilla. Al Dio ti affida,
che ti conduce, ed al silente oceano.
E se il mondo che cerchi ancor non fosse,
dai flutti uscir pur lo vedresti alfine;
ché un patto eterno è tra Natura e Genio,
e ciò che l’un promette, l’altra adempie.
