You will not thirst for long,
my burned-out heart!
The promise of something hangs in the air,
in unknown currents which blow upon me –
the great cool is coming…
My sun burns high up above me at noon:
I welcome you, as you drift by,
you sudden winds,
you cool spirits of evening!
The air surges, strange and clear.
Does the night not
squint at me with the
slit eyes of a seducer?
Stand firm, my brave heart!
Do not ask “Why?”.
Non avrai a lungo ancora sete,
mio cuore bruciato.
C’è una promessa nell’aria,
mi soffia contro da bocche sconosciute:
il grande fresco viene.
A mezzogiorno il mio sole era caldo
sopra di me. Benvenuti, voi che venite:
voi venti improvvisi,
voi freschi spiriti del pomeriggio.
L’aria corre straniera e pura.
Non mi guarda la notte
di lato, con un obliquo
sguardo di seduzione?
Resta saldo, mio cuore ardito,
non chiedere perchè.
