It’s spring, I leave a street where poplars are astonished,
where distance is alarmed and the house fears it may fall.
Where air is blue just like the linen bundle
a discharged patient takes from hospital,
where dusk is empty, like a broken tale,
abandoned by a star, without conclusion,
so that expressionless, unfathomable,
a thousand clamouring eyes are in confusion.
Primavera, io vengo dalla via, dove il pioppo è stupito,
dove la lontananza sbigottisce, dove la casa teme di crollare,
dove l’aria è azzurra come il fagottino della biancheria
di colui che è dimesso dall’ospedale!
Dove la sera è vuota come un racconto interrotto,
lasciato da una stella senza continuazione
per rendere perplessi mille occhi tumultuosi,
insondabili e privi di espressione.
