At the foot of the slope
among the tall cypress,
there is a small meadow.
There in that shade
are three old women
playing dice.
They never raise their heads for a moment,
nor do they change their places any day.
On their knees, on the grass,
they stay in that shade, and play.
(Transl. by L. C. Golino)
In fondo alla china,
fra gli alti cipressi,
è un piccolo prato.
Si stanno in quell’ombra
tre vecchie giocando coi dadi.
Non alzan la testa un istante,
non cambian di posto un sol giorno.
Sull’erba in ginocchio
si stanno in quell’ombra giocando.
